What is the difference between LED and florescent lights?
From a quick technical perspective: They are entirely different manners of producing light. Flourescent light is produced by a gaseous substance with a potential difference across it emitting electrons in the gas which are picked up by flourescent materials in the interior glass coating, which then convert that electron energy into Light with a crazy bit of atomic-level physics.
LED Lights are similar at the very end, whereas it relies on a material that converts the energy from the movement of electrons in its structure into light in a crazy bit of atomic-level physics having to do with electron shells, spins, atomic energy levels, etc… Where it is different is that it get the electrons through a semiconductor diode where the semiconductor in use is not the same crystalline structure that is in the ARM Processor in your phone - instead it is a crystalline molecular structure that does what the flourescent substance in a Flourescent Tube does, namely, give off light when electrons are bumped through it, rather than just heat or nothing much at all.
From a consumer perspective, they both put out light, but the quality of light will be different - different spectra, different "color temperatures", "Color Resolutions", "Lumens per Watt", Heat per lumen, etc… CFL's rely on materials such as the gas and the colors of the tube to get different lights. LED's rely on slightly changing the crystalline structure of the LED to tune particular wavelength spectra of output. It seems to be much easier to control light quality with the LED's now than with CFL's…. We are REALLY GOOD at making Semiconductors, and a lot of money has gone into the particular machinery that "grows" the LEDs.
So Why upgrade from fluorescent tubes to LED panels?
1.LED panels require less maintenance;
2.Fluorescent tubes have a 360 degree beam angle. As most fluorescent tubes are in the ceiling, this angle is unnecessary and means there's a lot of wasted light and energy;
3.Our LED panel example vs fluoresent tube (as below) uses 16watts less energy while supplying a brighter light;
4.A longer lifespan;
5.A high quality of light (no flickering) and a more pleasant colour;
6.Faster installation.
